Thanks so much this video is great
Thank you so much.❤❤❤
I am elderly and found this story hard to understand though I am an African.hank you for sharing this useful video.
Thank you for this video so full of information.
Thank you so much for all these amazing videos, these have been so useful for my higher English, i just have one thing that would really tick every list would be a video to round everything up for the commonality between all of the short stories, this would help a dozen more times than this set of video's already do and I would immensely greatful if you could make somethinf like that! In any case, these have been really helpful and I'm really glad that I found them! ❤
Came here from Mrs Carmichael
10:49 I don't think the explanation given here is a bad one necessarily, but I did find it strange that you did not point out the more obvious side of this allusion which was in reference to the fact that canonically when PAN would blow his PAN pipes, people who heard the sound would go into PANic; i.e. he was panicking. I feel like that's a thing worth mentioning. Thank you for the great video making reviewing for my exam easier, and helping me enjoy this tragic and yet comedic masterpiece!
Thanks, Arjun - that's another interesting perspective. The wonderful thing about poetry is that everyone can take something different out of a poem, so it's always interesting to hear others' responses. I loved your description of "tragic and yet comedic" too!
@@TheLearningCauldron I agree. Hearing how his decline in status is represented by an allusion to the god of Shepherds as well is definitely an interesting perspective and opened my mind up to the deeper meanings the poem could have! Thank you again!
great video, love it thank you
Glad you enjoyed it - good luck for your prelim!
Great video
Mam you should upload icse syllabus in your channel this will boost your views and students will also get helped for free...beacause your video quality is best you should try and teach students of indian boards both state like WBSE and ICSE i hope you will have a positive response to this comment and as a gratitude i would like to subscribe your channel thankyou...verymuch...
Hi there, Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Unfortunately, there's just me making these videos (in my own limited free time) so owing to time restrictions, I have to stick to the Scottish syllabus, which is what I know best. Perhaps one day!
My teacher loves you, every poem we do we copy quotes from you lol
Outstanding overview of the story! I enjoyed it a lot, thank you for making this literature-related content. Valuable and entertaining. <3

Hope it went well for you and it was a fair paper. :-)
Hi, English exam in a few days. see for the Higher english critical essay for “home” by Iain Crichton smith is it prose fiction or prose non-fiction im confused on what section it is from
'Home' is prose fiction, as it's a (made-up) short story. Non-fiction would be something like an autobiography or a factual essay. Good luck for your essay - be sure to know the themes of the story plus the techniques that ICS uses to explore the said theme(s). Hope it goes well :-)
My exam is tomorrow for this helped me so much 🙏
Really appreciate you taking the time to comment, Hannah. Hope the exam went well :-)
What the sigma
Shut the hell up
can someone help me understand the "frontier is never somewhere else" part, i just dont understand what it means at all
Apologies - I only saw your question now, so I'm possibly too late if you were sitting N5 English yesterday. If you're doing Higher English, , though, then it would be worth reading this explanation of what the frontier was in US history: www.britannica.com/topic/American-frontier In the poem, MacCaig uses the imagery of the Wild West in an earlier stanza, so in this final stanza, he is picking up again on that previous extended metaphor. The idea is that no matter where we humans are located, we're always on the edge of possible risk/danger (just as the early American settlers on the frontier were). So he is emphasising that violence is everywhere, even though humans should have moved on because the Wild West is (at the time he was writing) about 150 years ago. Yet still people are being violent to each other in the inner city. It's a pretty despairing thought :-( Hope this helps a little. Good luck if you're sitting Higher on Thursday. :-)
All of your videos are so in depth and helpful! Thank you so much :)
Thanks for your kind comment - so glad you find them useful :-) Good luck in the exam!
Thank you so much you are a queen ❤
Thanks for your lovely comment, Catrin. Hope the exam went well (if you were doing Nat5) or that it goes well (if you're doing Higher on Thursday). :-)
Thank you so much for these vids 😭I tend to look into the words toooo much, and not analyze the actual written style. This series helps me keep my head out the clouds and feet on the ground.
For real, they're so good. Good luck for the exam in 3 days

This is fantastic. Just what i was looking for. I really appreciate the time and effort put in the video to make it easy to understand. Exam is only one week away so this is a life saver. Much appreciated
Thanks for taking the time to respond and so glad that you found the video useful. Good luck with the exam next week! :-)
@@TheLearningCauldron thank you very much, I was literally gonna watch the video on war photographer. Again, much appreciated
my teacher said that this year the poem is either gonna be originally or valentine. would you say this is true?
Your teacher is clearly braver than I am! Perhaps they could be right, but personally (being supremely risk averse myself!) I'd be reluctant to predict which poem it's going to be in any year. The key thing is to prepare all six of them thoroughly, and then you'll be perfectly placed whatever pops up in the exam. Wishing you good luck for all your exams :-)
@@TheLearningCauldron oh okay, and thank you!
Can we have this with an English subtitle? I would appreciate that as there is just a Korean one
Thanks for the feedback - we had no idea they had Korean subtitles! We would like to do subtitles some day, as we appreciate it would be helpful, but unfortunately, we don't have time to tackle this at the moment :-(
It it important to know the themes for the 4 short stories?
Yes, it's always important to know which theme(s) a writer/poet/dramatist is exploring, as then you can analyse how certain quotes (or characters/setting/etc.) are used to show something related to one of the themes.
@@TheLearningCauldron thank you so much! Your video is extremely helpful
